Henna powder is mixed with essential oils, lemon juice, sugar and other natural ingredients to create a paste used for hair dye or drawing henna tattoos.
Traditional henna tattoos -- usually in the form of flowers and other nature-inspired designs -- were once applied only to Indian women's hands and married women's feet.
Pick fresh henna leaves, and set them out flat to dry in the shade.
Henna leaves should not be exposed to sunlight, or they will lose some of their potency.
It may take several weeks for them to dry, and they should dry to a crisp.
Things You'll Need :
Dried henna leaves
Pestle and mortar
Sifter or a nylon stocking
Instructions :
Place dried henna leaves in a large bowl and pick through them to remove twigs and other debris. You can obtain henna leaves from some herbalists, health food stores and online specialty stores.
Grind the leaves to a fine powder with a pestle and mortar or you can use electronic grinder.
Sift the powder into a clean bowl through a sifter or a nylon stocking to remove larger chunks and any debris you missed in the initial sorting process. Your powder is now ready to make into paste.
Use the henna powder right away, or store it in a sealed plastic bag.
Exposure to heat and light can cause it to lose potency.
